Reasor's and Coca-Cola Donate $5,000 to Food Bank

Reasor's and Coca-Cola have teamed up to help the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma by donating $5,000. Reasor's and Coca-Cola executives presented the check on January 8, 2013.

"At Reasor's we want to be involved in opportunities like this when it benefits others in our community. We are thrilled to be able to help put food on the table for those in our community that so desperately need it," said Steve Lehto, vice president and chief operations officer of Reasor's and CFBEO board member.

"Great Plains Coca-Cola is proud to partner with Reasor's for this opportunity to support the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma" said Curtis Stewart, vice president key accounts of Great Plains Coca-Cola.

Without continuous donations, the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma's warehouse which holds 3 million pounds of food when at full capacity would be empty within 3 months if no additional food was received. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, nearly 15 percent of American households, or more than 17 million people, do not have enough food to eat. This is the highest figure since the USDA began gathering data in the 1990s. Oklahoma is ranked the fourth-hungriest state in the nation.

"I feel fortunate to have such outstanding partners in the fight against hunger, said Eileen Bradshaw, executive director of the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. Without continued support like this many more Oklahomans would go to bed hungry. The $5,000 will provide 25,000 meals."

In addition, Reasor's partners with the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma on a program called Recycle Hope. It was created by Reasor's in September 2011, to give customers the option for donating their reusable bag savings to the Food Bank.

All Reasor's shoppers who use reusable bags for their groceries at checkout automatically save 6¢ off their total purchase per reusable bag used. Recycle Hope is a convenient way to pass along those savings to those in need.
