Tulsa, OK - November 20th through December 15th, Reasor's locations teamed up with local news station, KJRH Channel 2 for their 13th Annual Food 2 Families Food Drive, benefitting the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma. Throughout the campaign, Reasor's collected 55,697 pounds of food and over $12,000 in monetary donations.
During the campaign, Reasor's shoppers were given the opportunity to donate non-perishable food items, purchase pre-made sacks of the most needed items for $15 or make a donation at the cash register. In 2012, Reasor's donated 41,350 pounds of food, exceeding donation totals from the previous year.
"We are overwhelmed by the response of our customers and the community," Steve Lehto, executive vice-president and chief operating officer "to have the ability to make such an overwhelming impact on the community we live and work in is truly outstanding and as an area local grocer we know that this response is what Oklahomans do."
In addition to the record breaking totals, the George Kaiser Family Foundation matched the monetary donations raised during the campaign, doubling the $12,000 raised by Reasor's and making the total number of meals provided just by monetary donations 96,000.
The recipient of the donations, the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, works with a network of 450 partner programs in 24 counties of eastern Oklahoma. These programs include food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after school programs and senior citizen centers. Through this network, the food bank provides more than 275,000 meals each week.
