The 2012 Stamp Out Hunger food drive was an enormous success, bringing in 267,606 pounds of food for the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.
Reasor's was a proud sponsor of the food drive and from April 25 through May 14th all stores served as a collection center for non-perishable food donations. Reasor's also sold pre-made sacks of food filled with most needed items that customers could purchase to donate.
A total of 19,372 pounds of food were collected from Reasor's stores. The remainder was collected through the National Letter Carriers who distributed plastic sacks in mailboxes all over northeastern Oklahoma for consumers to fill with non-perishable donations and place by their mailbox.
The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive helps the Food Bank have enough supplies to make it through the summer, when donations traditionally drop off. But the need increases because students are out of school and don't have free breakfast and lunch available to them.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this great cause. Together we can stamp out hunger in Oklahoma.
About the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma
The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma was founded in 1981 as the Tulsa Community Food Bank. We are the largest private hunger-relief organization in Eastern Oklahoma. Their mission is to feed the hungry of Eastern Oklahoma and engage our communities in ending hunger. They serve 450 Partner Programs in 24 counties of Eastern Oklahoma. These programs include emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, after-school programs and senior citizen centers. Nearly half of the food that is distributed to the hungry by these agencies comes from the Food Bank and together we feed 60,000 people per week. Last year they distributed 16.9 million pounds of food.
