Italian Casserole

This is a rich dish that needs only a salad and fruit or frutice to complete a satisfying dinner.
  • 1 package (12 oz) Large Pasta Shells
  • 8 ounces Cottage or Ricotta Cheese
  • 6 tablespoons Butter or Margarine, melted
  • 2 cans (8 oz each) Tomato Sauce
  • 1 cup Fresh or Canned Mushrooms (drained), sliced
  • 1 Green Pepper, diced
  • 1 cup Pepperoni, thinly sliced
  • 2 packages (6 oz each) Presliced Mozzarella Cheese
  • 1/2 pound Ground Beef
  • Dried Oregano Leaves, salt and black pepper to taste

Add Ingredients to Shopping List

  1. Cook shells as directed on package.
  2. Drain.
  3. Sauté ground beef.
  4. Mix cottage or ricotta cheese, butter and tomato sauce until well blended.
  5. Stir in mushrooms and green pepper, blending well.
  6. Add oregano, salt and black pepper.
  7. Place layer of cooked shells in bottom of lightly buttered casserole.
  8. Cover with layer of cottage cheese mixture.
  9. Top with half the pepperoni.
  10. Place 2 slices Mozzarella cheese on top.
  11. Crumble with 1/3 ground beef evenly over cheese.
  12. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with Mozzarella cheese on top, ringed with pepperoni slices.
  13. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes until hot and bubbly.
