Square Dance Farm

Square Dance is a small farm with big ideas ran by Zac and Marissa Madding in Porum, OK . They have turned their passion for sharing great food into an aquaponics greenhouse. Aquaponics simply is a marriage of aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (the soil-less growing of plants) that grows fish and plants together in one integrated system. The fish waste provides an organic food source for the growing plants and the plants provide a natural filter for the water the fish live in. In combining both systems aquaponics capitalizes on the benefits and eliminates the drawbacks of each. They can produce 1800 leafy green plants each week and a variety of fruits and vegetables and tilapia year-round without the use of pesticides. This family has farmed this part of Muskogee County for four generations and is proud to be part of the new agricultural revolution.
